The Wedding Dress Hunt

     The Wedding Dress Hunt

Amanda Briggs

Most little girls dream about the day they get to be center stage, adorned in white, and saying "I do" to their Prince Charming. Whether it is a huge ceremony or a private affair, almost always there is a wedding dress involved. Searching for the perfect gown nowadays is not all it is cracked up to be. The task can be emotionally and physically exhausting, leaving the bride-to-be a blubbering mess. Having a plan of attack may make the process less stressful and more enjoyable.

First, carefully pick who you take with you on your wedding dress quest. Most women naturally want their mother to be with them but if you and your mom have different tastes, it may not be in your favor. Your mother may envision you in a loose-fitting princess gown while you may be searching for a revealing mermaid-style dress. Try to find someone who is not only honest, but also appreciates your style.

Secondly, decide what kind of store you want to shop for your dress at. For example, there are huge chain stores with thousands of gowns to choose from. These specialty shops are usually attended by appointment only and have the bonus of giving you an assistant to help you out with the decision process. They are generally a bit overpriced and can be slightly overwhelming. If this is not your style, you may want to check out a vintage shop for your getting-hitched attire. The benefits of doing this include more unique dresses, less expensive price tags, and reduced pressure from a salesperson. Having your price range and style of dress already predetermined before actually entering a store will not only help in locating your ideal gown but will also give the people assisting you a good idea of what to look for.

Lastly, give yourself adequate time to find the dress of your dreams. Most dresses need to be altered and the process alone can take upwards of a month. If you are not positive on the type of dress you want, you may have a longer search ahead of you. Do not count on finding what you are looking for in one day. Some brides try on hundreds of dresses before finding "the one". If this sounds like it could be you, start the pursuit earlier rather than later! After all, you are the main attraction at the big event! Do remember that this is your wedding and you will never, hopefully, be able to relive one again. So, channel your inner daydreaming, little, girl and enjoy the hunt as you discover the wedding dress of your dreams!
